Candle care guide

Look after it, and it looks after you

Before the first light

A massage candle asks for a little patience the first time — and repays it for forty hours after.

Soy wax has a memory. The first burn sets the shape of every burn that follows, so give it time to pool right across the surface before you blow it out. Everything else is small kindnesses: a trimmed wick, a level surface, a lid when it rests.

Care rules

Six small habits

Trim the wick

To about 5mm before every light. A long wick smokes, soots the glass and burns through your candle faster.

Mind the first burn

Let the pool reach the edge on the very first light — usually 20–30 minutes. Cut it short and the candle will tunnel forever after.

Four hours, no more

Never burn longer than four hours at a stretch. Let it cool and re-set before the next evening.

Test before you pour

Always trickle a little onto the back of your hand first. It should feel like warm bath water, never sharp.

Keep it level and clear

Burn on a heat-safe, level surface, away from curtains, drafts and anything that moves — children and pets included.

Store it cool

Somewhere dark and under 25°C, lid on. Direct sun fades the scent and can soften the wax out of shape.

Troubleshooting

The first burn was cut short. Wrap foil loosely around the top of the vessel, leaving a hole above the flame, and burn for two hours — the trapped heat should level the surface again.
